We sat down with Nouhad the owner of Kids Spot Nursery, to discuss how she uses technology to connect with parents at her nurseries in Dubai, UAE.
Can you introduce your daycare centers, please?
Hi, my name is Nouhad and I’m the owner and managing director of Kids Spot Nursery. In Dubai we have two branches of Kids Spot and we have one called Mini Moon in Lebanon.
Which software do you use to communicate with your parents?
The software we use is the Parent app. Why, is there any other better software out there?
What made you decide to use the Parent app?
When we first opened, we tried many apps for the daily updates, whether it’s internal or for parents. We struggled quite a bit for a few years until I was introduced to the Parents app. Although it was new in the market, I was pretty much intrigued, and we tried it, and haven’t gone back since.
What makes this software efficient for your nursery?
It has everything. Parent App has everything we need as a Nursery. It has the management part and it has the parent and the communication part with them.
What are some of the benefits for your staff in the general day-to-day operation?
For my team, it backs them up in everything they do. There’s proof, something that I can see as well. So when there are activities being done, I see them, the updates are there and it is less time-consuming than writing papers and following up with them and who’s writing what. It’s all there.
How important is communicating with parents and families and how has Parent app helped with this?
Communication with parents is everything. At the end of the day, these people are bringing you their mini souls. It’s time you take it, take care of it. And communication with these people, making them feel comfortable and as close as possible, is the whole part.
It’s everything that comforts that family feel and because of the growth of nurseries, it is hard for you to do it on a personal level every day. So the parent app helps with that. Shows them the pictures, the videos, and the updates, all in just one platform.
What feedback have you received from parents about the app?
In the beginning, there was quite a bit of confusion, they didn’t understand what it was. Today, if there’s one day when the app, for example, we got busy or we are unable to update, they are upset because they’re so used to it. They love seeing the pictures, they love seeing what happened with the kids to update us, or us giving them the updates from our side as well. They’re very used to it and super happy to feel involved in the nursery.
Why is technology in daycare centers essential, and how to choose the right software?
We’re in 2023 almost, right? Paper and pen for a nursery are no longer something we should be even thinking of. Everything is digital. The world is digital. We need to be as eco-friendly as possible. And that’s just one part. Rather than keeping everything updated, I, as a manager, need to be able to see what’s happening without having to look for a paper.
Choosing the right software is simple. What is it that your center needs? What is it that your teachers are able to do easily without taking too much time and making them feel like it’s just extra work? On the contrary, it is supporting them. The user-friendly interface, I think, is one of the most important parts of picking software to use.
